Following the trend of publishers moving popular console games to mobile platforms, EA has announced its franchise hit, Battlefield, will be going mobile

And it’s no surprise why.  In 2020, mobile gaming generated over $77 billion in revenues and was one of the best performing industries of the year, globally.  This year, 2021, growth shows little signs of slowing down.

Over the past few months, EA has been teasing the release of its new Battlefield game, but many gamers and industry experts expected the launch to be on console or PC first.  A departure from the norm, for sure.

However, the company said its mobile Battlefield will be a standalone version, and will be first to launch.  There will be some differences between the mobile and PC/console versions, which will be released afterwards.

As the industry begins shifting to more mobile play, investment, mergers and acquisitions in the space have reached new highs.  With gaming revenue expanding so rapidly, publishers, developers and investors are all looking for new and innovative ways to grow their businesses and portfolios.

Look for 2021 to become the new top year for investment in gaming.  Smaller companies with unique or patented technologies could be the biggest winners.
