To crack down on “spiritual opium”, China will now limit the amount of time kids can play video games to just 3 hours a week

One hour on Friday, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The move is a big blow to developers, publishers and advertisers trying to enter the largest gaming market, globally. These limitations come after China has warned of the use of video games among children could lead to undesirable outcomes, especially for the communist government.

In its attempt to control the Chinese tech industry, Beijing is clamping down on tech expansion and consumer usage across the country, and across platforms. From Tencent to NetEase, platforms can now only offer gaming to children on those 3 days a week, from 8pm to 9pm, and on certain holidays.
