After raising $116 million in a Series B funding round, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, mobile game developer, Tripledot has acquired Live Play Mobile
Live Play is a streaming platform which targets casual mobile gamers. The company broadcasts live hosted gameshows, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It’s first game, Live Play Bingo, was initially developed in 2020 and is widely popular.
Live Play CEO, Stuart Lewis-Smith said of interactive game show streaming, “It’s a massive genre, with a long tail of games, but the leaders are now fairly old products… We felt bingo was well suited to a hosted experience and by doing this we can disrupt the market.”
“We have followed Live Play Mobile since its inception and we believe in their vision of creating a new hybrid category combining live entertainment with games that everyone loves to play, said Lior Shiff, Tripledot’s CEO.
Tripledot believes there’s “massive opportunity to scale Live Play Bingo so it can be played by anyone in the world.”
Terms of the deal are undisclosed, but this acquisition adds to the already record-breaking deal value of 2022.
Last year, an estimated $85 billion in video game industry M&A deals occurred. That’s triple the value of 2020. This year, just one quarter in, deals in the industry have already surpassed the value of 2021, and are expected to reach well over $100 billion before the year is out.
