Microsoft Corp may be on the verge of acquiring Discord Inc, the video game chat service company, for more than $10 Billion.
Discord, the wildly popular social media platform allows the gaming community to communicate via video, voice and text messages. Their service, however, is not strictly used by gamers.
Discord has been courting potential buyers recently, yet may choose to go public via IPO instead. Should Microsoft win a bid for Discord, it would allow Microsoft to own and incorporate social media into their own gaming devices, such as the Xbox, and potentially boost game sales, subscriptions and downloads through targeted ads.
With more than 100 million monthly active users, Discord is a very attractive asset, not only to Microsoft, but potentially Epic Games, Amazon and others.
