The most popular show in the history of Netflix is Squid Game

In the series, contestants play kid’s games until only one contestant remains… alive. With over 130 million people having already watched the show, the company has decided it wants to turn the hit series into a video game.

But Squid Game will not be the company’s first soiree into video games based on a Netflix series. Earlier this year, the company released two “Stranger Things’ game titles. Stranger Things was a big series for the company, with four seasons of the show being produced.

But Squid Game is an even bigger hit.

As a result, Netflix’s VP of Content for Asia, Minyoung Kim, confirmed the company is looking to turn Squid Game into a video game, saying:

We’ve been getting an overwhelming but happy volume of requests from the organization — from the consumer product department, from the gaming group, from our other international teams. My team’s role is to really look at all of those opportunities together, to create that roadmap for the Squid Game IP. We are looking at multiple different areas — from games, consumer product, and others…”

This move by Netflix shows the company is more than serious about competing in the video game market and may actually give them a great advantage over other publishers. By creating games from hit shows, Netflix could predict the viability and profitability of a game before it’s even developed.
