Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was released on October 28th and has broken the franchises record for the fastest to $1 billion. Since release, gamers have spent over 200 million hours, and conducted over 1 billion Call of Duty “matches” on console and PC. Call it a grand slam for ATVI.
But more, it was the biggest opening day, and week, for the entertainment industry this year… including all movies, music, and video games.
However, while a billion bucks and a billion “matches” in ten days is astonishing, it doesn’t come close to the industrywide record for reaching a $billion the fastest.
That title goes to Grand Theft Auto V, which toppled the $1 billion mark in just three days!
