It’s not only Netflix that’s looking to build a “Netflix for gaming.” It was recently announced that Big Tech companies, Apple and Amazon have launched subscription-based video game services in hopes of becoming the top dog in subscription-based gaming.

Jim Ryan, the President of Sony Interactive Entertainment says the company will continue to acquire more studios. This statement comes after five acquisitions in 2021 and two already in 2022.

The metaverse market, as defined by Citi could include AR/VR headsets, smartphones, games, “real estate” and in-metaverse transactions. Citi estimates that by 2030, the target date for its up-to $13 trillion valuation, the metaverse will have accumulated as many as 5 billion users, or 63% of the current world population.

After raising $116 million in a Series B funding round, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, mobile game developer, Tripledot has acquired Live Play Mobile. Live Play is a streaming platform which targets casual mobile gamers.

With war raging in Eastern Europe, two charity game bundles have raised over $16 million for Ukrainian charities. Itch.io has raised over $6 million while Humble Bundle has thus far raised over $10 million.
